The Good
Jenna Coleman. Oh my god, yes. Even if I wasn’t a huge fan of her’s, I would have been blown away. Sadly I also sense that the odds of the BBC being able to afford to get her to reprise Clara in a year or so are evaporating quickly. If she’s as good in the rest of the series as she is in the pilot, she’ll be snapped up by Hollywood before Halloween.
Rufus Sewell. As far as I’m concerned, Meltoria is Whouffaldi II. Her chemistry with Rufus as Lord Melbourne is nearly as strong as it was with Peter as the Doctor. This is high, high praise. The relationship they have between Victoria and Melbourne is sweet, touching, ultimately sad if you know your history - and it gains extra points for laughing in the face of ageism. I actually am not looking forward to Tom Hughes inevitably coming in as Albert. Nothing against Hughes at all - but I want 7 more episodes Meltoria.
